Protein is the №1 key driver in FMCG in Russia.

13 February 2026
In 2025, the Russian market for high-protein products expanded beyond sports nutrition and became a mass segment in FMCG.

Trend in numbers:
  • Sales of protein products in Russia (April 2024 – March 2025) grew by 83.5% in value terms and 63.1% in volume terms (NTech).
  • The fastest growth was in the dairy category: +123.5% year-on-year versus +11.5% for classic products (Nielsen).
  • The protein dairy product market size by the end of 2025 will reach 80 billion rubles (52 billion rubles the year before).
  • Protein confectionery products: +45% year-on-year in the first half of 2025 (Nielsen).
  • 73% of shoppers make impulse purchases of "healthy" snacks (ROMIR).

Key facts:
  • Protein has become a popular ingredient in dairy products, snacks, desserts, and bakery products.
  • Consumers are looking not only for high protein content but also for clean labels, the absence of added sugar, the presence of prebiotics, and taste.
  • Regulatory oversight is tightening: mandatory labeling of sports nutrition and protein products will be in effect from October 2025.

This trend will continue into 2026, generating demand for new ingredients, technologies, and formulas that will be presented at the Global Ingredients Show from April 28 to 30.

Protein solutions for food and beverage production will be presented by Ecos, Amursky MEZ, Formula Edya, Khimbroker, Ochakovsky Plant of Food Ingredients (OKPI), Revada Group, and other companies.

Visitors to the GIS exhibition will have the opportunity to conclude contracts for the supply of protein ingredients, expand their line of functional products, and strengthen their position in a fast-growing category.
