Russians are cautious about biotechnologies in food ingredients

13 March 2026
The VTsIOM Analytical Center presented research data on the perception of bioeconomics in Russia.

The main figures:
• 47% of Internet users are familiar with the term "bioeconomics".
• 61% consider themselves at least partially aware of the topic.
• 64% of informed respondents see the advantages of bioeconomics.
• 53% at the same time note the presence of risks.

The attitude towards biotechnologies in the food industry remains cautious:
• 27% of Russians support the use of biotechnologies in food production.
• 31% are ready to consider ingredients and additives obtained using them.
• 36% oppose the use of biotechnologies in food production.

The key concerns are related to the substitution of natural with "artificial" (10%), fears around GMOs (6%) and possible price increases (9%).

At the same time, experts note that the development of bioeconomics largely depends on informing the market and discussing real technological solutions.

These issues, from biotechnologies and innovative ingredients to the development of the raw material base and technological sovereignty, will be discussed at the Ingredients and Additives forum, which will be held as part of the Global Ingredients Show.
